Akpabio, Udom Reconcile In Aso Rock, Shake Hands For The First Time In 9 Years
The President of Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, have reportedly reconciled after many years of enmity.
Mr Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom, and his successor, Mr Emmanuel, had fallen out due to irreconcilable pollical differences which eventually led to Mr Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018.
The reconciliation reportedly happened at the Presidential Villa, Abuja during the meeting of Akwa Ibom stakeholders with President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, February 28.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media/Communication, Anietie Ekong quoted Senator Akpabio as preaching peace, unity and reconciliation among the political stakeholders of Akwa Ibom State.
According to Senator Akpabio he had reconciled with his successor in office, Mr Udom Emmanuel and both of them shook hands at the earlier meeting at the Villa, the first time in nine years, and urged other stakeholders to follow suit and make peace with their fellow compatriots.
“Henceforth that handshake shall continue in Jesus name. This is the Akwa Ibom I want to see,” he said.
According to the statement, Senator Akpabio made these disclosures at a luncheon he hosted for the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno and a delegation of stakeholders at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Friday, February 28.
