Hon. Ekpenyong Advocates Professional Guidance In Project Constructions

The Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, has advised individuals to seek the guidance of experts and professionals when building or constructing projects.

Hon. Ekpenyong was the special guest of honour at the book presentation titled “Contemporary Issues in the Built Environment”, organized by the School of Environmental Studies, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

He reflected on key issues and challenges in the built environment, noting that the built environment is the human-made surroundings, where people live, work, and play as such it should be properly planned.

The chairman, however, advised the government to encourage synergy between Ministry of lands and town planning personnel and Local Government Staff/Administration relating to land use and approvals as well as appointing the right people to heads of Ministries and parastatals, as well as directorates in the Local Government in councils, especially land town planning and housing related agencies.

He urged builders and planners to encourage green areas in the built environment and having more space than buildings within the compound while explaining that planting more economic trees/within the compound and giving out space for oneself or access roads to the compound are very paramount.

The council helmsman appreciated the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, ably led by the Rector, Barr. Moses Umobong, and chief host in promoting Academic Excellence, the dean of environmental studies; Dr. Israel Udoka, and staff of the polytechnic community.

The highlight of the event witnessed a book launched by the Hon. Ekpenyong with the support of One Million naira and 100 thousand naira respectfully for the six participating Departments as support.

Exhibitions from various departments, keynote presentations, reviews, open talks on sustainable development, strategies for Polytechnic and others.

The presentation of Chairman Per Excellence award to Hon. Ekpenyong, for his outstanding contribution to the school of environmental studies by the School of Environmental studies, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, and a warm welcome by the National Association of Uruan Students (NAUS) Akwapoly Chapter.

As part of the development efforts of his administration, the chairman has embarked on the remodeling of Adadia Police Station, which was at a deplorable state, reconstruction of 8 flat/2-bedroom (16 rooms) police quarters, Adadia, massive grading of rural roads, purchase of seats/tables for supervisors and councilors.

Hon. Ekpenyong is a former student leader, a former lecturer, and a Licensed surveyor. He has received several awards including one of the best performing chairmen in Nigeria.
