AKSG Disburses N5.1bn ARISE Grants to MSMEs in Abak Federal Constituency
In a bid to strengthen Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Akwa Ibom State, the state government has distributed N5.1 billion under the ARISE Grant initiative to 833 beneficiaries from the Abak-Etim Ekpo-Ika Federal Constituency.
The ARISE Grant is a government-backed empowerment program designed to support farmers, traders, craftsmen, and MSMEs by providing financial aid and equipment. A breakdown of the disbursed funds reveals that N111 million was allocated to 178 crop, fish, and livestock farmers, N176 million was given to 442 traders across different sectors, and N30 million was awarded to six MSME operators. Additionally, hundreds of millions were directed towards equipment support for 198 craftsmen, while six individuals received mini buses, and three beneficiaries were granted cars.
During the maiden town hall meeting and empowerment ceremony held at Abak Township Stadium on Saturday, Governor Pastor Umo Eno emphasized that empowering MSMEs is essential for fostering economic growth. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting small businesses both in urban and rural areas, ensuring their sustainability and expansion.
Governor Eno highlighted that his government meticulously profiled potential beneficiaries to ensure transparency and prevent the inclusion of ineligible urban-based individuals. He assured that all recipients are genuine business owners and urged them to utilize the grants effectively, as this was a one-time opportunity.
“These small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They employ a few people, provide for their families, and contribute significantly to economic growth. We must support them,” Eno stated. He further emphasized that the selection process was thorough, with beneficiaries’ details publicly accessible on the state government’s website for verification.
“We have personally visited their businesses and farms to confirm their authenticity. No longer will names be randomly selected in Uyo without verification. Once a beneficiary receives support, their name is logged into the system to prevent duplication, ensuring others get the opportunity,” he added.
Governor Eno expressed his desire to be remembered as a leader who brought governance closer to rural communities by ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, infrastructure, and other essential amenities.
The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong, along with key stakeholders from Abak, Etim Ekpo, and Ika Local Government Areas, presented a charter of needs during the meeting. A motion was moved and seconded in support of Governor Eno’s leadership, with a collective endorsement for his continued administration beyond 2027 in recognition of his commitment to the people.
In goodwill messages, notable figures such as Professor Nkereuwem Etukudo, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN), and Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko (SAN) commended Governor Eno for upholding his campaign promises and pledged their continued support.
Beneficiaries of the grant, including Inemesit Abraham and Semfon Dickson, expressed gratitude for the initiative, affirming that the selection process was fair and devoid of political bias. They described the program as a well-targeted empowerment initiative aimed at fostering economic growth in the state.
