Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner inaugurates tender committee
The Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, has officially inaugurated the Ministry’s Tender Board Committee, tasking its members with ensuring fair, transparent and efficient procurement processes.
During the event, which took place in her office on Friday, March 14, Hon. Ibanga inaugurated two committees: the Tender Board Committee and the Procurement Planning Committee. The latter is a four-member body comprising the ministry’s Heads of Departments and chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Eno Akpan.
The Commissioner, stressed the importance of adhering to established policies and regulations, underscoring the need for best practices in procurement to uphold the ministry’s integrity.
She urged committee members to perform their duties diligently, ensuring accountability and fairness in all procurement activities.
The newly established committee is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce irregularities, and promote value for money in the ministry’s procurement processes.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr. Edem Bassey, explained that the visit aimed to sensitize the ministry’s management on public procurement procedures and witness the inauguration of the committees.
He highlighted the necessity for all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to have a Tender Board Committee to foster efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public procurement, thereby curbing corruption and ensuring proper utilization of funds.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Edwin James, Head of Accounts, Mr. Emmanuel Okon, Head of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS), Mr. Aniekan Akpan; and Mr. Mboso Inyang, Head of PRS at the Bureau of Public Procurement.
