Media Professionals Advocate Safety Awareness
…as ISPON Pledges Partnership
In line with their media awareness and advocacy role, media professionals in Akwa Ibom State, under the auspices of the Apex Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have called for intensified public enlightenment campaigns to promote safety consciousness.
The Chairman of Apex Chapel, Mr. Udemeabasi Udofa, made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the chapel’s leadership to the State Coordinator of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Uyo.
Udofa commended the State Coordinator for his dedication to fostering safety awareness in workplaces, homes, schools and other spheres of society. He emphasized the critical need for safety consciousness in all aspects of daily life.
The Chairman also sought a partnership with ISPON to improve the dissemination of safety-related information to the public, pledging the full support of media professionals to the organization.
In his response, the State Coordinator of ISPON, Mr. Ita Benson, thanked the journalists for the visit and explained that the institute, established in 2014, is mandated to promote, regulate, standardize and certify safety practices, as well as investigate accidents and incidents.
Benson noted that ISPON collaborates with relevant government agencies to set safety practice standards, determine required competencies for safety professionals and periodically review these benchmarks.
The Coordinator expressed readiness to partner with the media to sustain safety awareness in Akwa Ibom State, in alignment with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda. He also lauded the Governor for prioritizing the safety of lives and property, vowing to uphold initiatives that advance safety professionalism in both public and private sectors.
