ALICE EKPENYONG URGES COOPERATIVE GROUPS TO CREATE IMPACT IN RURAL COMMUNITIES
The Special Adviser, Bureau of Cooperative and Rural Development, Rt Hon. Alice Ekpenyong, has urged cooperative groups to create initiatives and projects that will have positive impacts in the rural communities.
Rt. Hon. Ekpenyong, who gave the charge, Monday, June 16, while playing host to members of Community Development Associations and Stakeholders of Oil Palm Processing/Dealers, noted that cooperative groups were integral part of the government’s rural development plan.
Addressing members of the Community Development Associations, she noted that “Governor Umo Eno is interested in project that will impact and benefit the rural dwellers at all times”
The former lawmaker added that when it comes to community development, it was important to have in mind that only the projects initiated and the people that have been empowered will serve as evidence in the future, adding that the project must be seen and felt by the masses.
Speaking on behalf of the Community Development Associations, Mrs. Grace Obosi, commended Governor Umo Eno for creating the Ministry for Bureau of Cooperative and Rural Development.
While intimating Mama Cooperative on the challenges of the Association, Mrs Obosi noted that some parts of OrukAnam Local Government Area do not have adequate electricity, access to good healthcare facilities, among other basic amenities.
Arch. Daniel Enang, speaking on behalf of Uruan Local Government Area, said that there was no access road in Ibaku Uruan and also a good laboratories for their students in the area.
On the part of the stakeholders of Oil Palm Processing/Dealer, Mrs Angela Effiong, thanked the Governor for this timely intervention while appealing for empowerment of their members with modern equipment in palm oil processing.
Other dealers from Mbo, Ikot Abasi, and Mkpat Enin Local Government Areas, called on Governor Eno to build an oil processing mill to make their job easy, while also appealing for the provision of palm oil storage facilities.
