Ibeno:  Effiong Reaffirms Resolve To Collaborate With Security Agencies

The Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, Hon. Glory Effiong, has reaffirmed her administration resolve to strengthen cooperation with security agencies in the state assured the Nigerian Army of the council’s continuous support in facilitating an enabling environment for security operations within Ibeno.

The Chairman asserted this as she received, Brigadier- General Alexander Tawasimi, the newly appointed Commander of the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Akwa Ibom State, during an engagement at the council headquarters, Iwuoachang.

Welcoming the military delegation, Hon. Glory Effiong lauded the Nigerian Army’s dedication to national security, counter-insurgency operations, and intelligence-led defense strategies that have all contributed to the peace and stability within Akwa Ibom State.

 Underscoring Ibeno’s geo-strategic importance as a coastal and oil-rich region, the council boss emphasised the need for robust security frameworks to protect critical national assets, deter maritime criminality, and ensure the safety of residents and investors.

The Ibeno council boss advocated for a multi-stakeholder security approach that integrates community intelligence, proactive surveillance, and rapid response mechanisms to mitigate security threats, particularly in the oil and gas sector while assuring the Nigerian Army of the council’s continuous support in facilitating an enabling environment for security operations in the area.

Speaking at the visit, Brigadier General Tawasimi acknowledged the pivotal role of local government leadership in intelligence-sharing, grassroots security coordination, and fostering operational synergy between the military and civilian stakeholders.

The new commander, further assured the people of Ibeno that under his watch, the 2 Brigade would engage in strategic security interventions, deter economic sabotage, and increase surveillance operations to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure, lives, and livelihoods.

In attendance were the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Ukpong Okon; the Councilors, led by the Leader of the Legislature, Hon. Rose Nelson; Supervisors, led by, Hon. Ikpe Ebrewong; the entourage of the 2 Brigade Commander amongst many others.
